Problem

Users struggled to find documents, despite the implementation of a Google Custom Search within the CMS. The search function lacked the necessary context and relevance, making it difficult for users to locate the assets they needed efficiently. This issue resulted in significant time wastage, frustration among users, and a noticeable decline in productivity for both the end-users and site administrators.

Process

Research & Analysis:
Recognizing that competitors faced similar issues with clunky CMS interfaces, we explored existing solutions like WordPress plugins and other products, but they were either too costly or insufficient. We decided to build a custom solution tailored to our needs.

Design & Development:
Inspired by the clean, intuitive design of Google Docs, I developed a fully responsive interface that was both user-friendly and aligned with the brand identity of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The dashboard effectively solved the issue for the end-user by providing sectioned areas for files that were Starred (Featured/Promoted), Recently Uploaded, and Trending.

Outcome and Impact

The new custom solution led to noticeable improvements in user experience, with initial feedback indicating that the intuitive, Google Docs-inspired interface made document retrieval significantly easier. The design was well-received for its responsiveness and seamless integration with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod's brand.

Additionally, by setting up comprehensive metrics and analytics, we ensured the ability to track ongoing improvements and make data-driven enhancements moving forward.
