The LCMS mobile app was outdated, lacked modern features, and was at risk of being removed from app stores due to compliance issues. To maintain its relevance and ensure usability, I faced a choice: apply quick fixes or rebuild the app from the ground up. I chose a complete rebuild to enhance user experience, add new features, and ensure future compatibility.
I began by consulting with key stakeholders to understand their goals and expectations for the app. I conducted a competitive analysis to benchmark against similar apps, identifying essential features and areas for improvement. To ensure my vision was technically feasible, I collaborated with the development team on a feasibility study.
Using Adobe XD, I designed intuitive user interfaces that emphasized key features like finding a church or school, accessing detailed service information, and engaging with daily devotionals. I created light prototypes to test and refine the user experience, making sure it was user-friendly and aligned with the LCMS brand.
I adopted an iterative testing approach, gathering feedback from users and stakeholders. This process of continuous feedback and adjustment ensured that the final product met both user needs and stakeholder expectations.
The redesigned LCMS app was successfully launched, resulting in a notable increase in downloads and user engagement. The new app was easier to update, more secure, and featured enhanced functionality:
The redesign not only brought the app back into compliance but also positioned it as a valuable, user-friendly resource, strengthening its connection with the LCMS community.
